Albufeira
Not recommended, unless you enjoy a party scene
We don’t recommend staying in Albufeira. It’s a touristy city where many British youths go to party and drink, unless that’s something you would enjoy.

Portimão
Centrally located, spacious, and great for activities
Portimão is centrally located, spacious, and has a large beach. From here, you can go on many excursions, like a boat trip to spot dolphins or a tour of the Benagil cave and other beautiful caves. We highly recommend the Benagil cave!

Lagos
Charming, small city
Lagos is another beautiful, small city where you could stay, but it’s a bit farther from the wedding festivities.

Praia do Carvoeiro
A bit touristy, but worth it
Praia da Carvoeiro is somewhat touristy but still worth staying in. It has plenty of small shops and a beautiful beach to enjoy.

Vilamoura
Lovely for a visit, not for staying
Vilamoura is a cozy and beautiful town to visit, but we don’t recommend staying there, as it’s mainly a party destination for wealthier British tourists.

Things to Do

The Algarve is not just a stunning backdrop for our wedding but also a great place to explore nature and enjoy outdoor activities. Here are some of our favorite suggestions for hiking and surfing:

Hiking

  • Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
The best option for a beautiful hike is truly the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. You can find plenty of information about it on Google, and this route is absolutely worth it.

  • Ponta da Piedade
Another breathtaking spot is Ponta da Piedade, which is a walk everyone can enjoy. The views are spectacular!

  • Luz to Burgau or Luz to Lagos
If you're looking for more walking options, you can hike from Luz to Burgau or from Luz to Lagos (or the other way around).

  • Monchique
For the more advanced hikers, we recommend exploring the trails in Monchique. The area is hilly, with some challenging climbs for those up for an adventure.

Surfing

For those who love the water or want to try surfing, Portugal is a fantastic destination! Search Google for a surf school near where you're staying—there are plenty to choose from, no matter your level.
